Public Relations Administrator, Office of Economic Development, UConn
Steve earned his B.A. in English Journalism and Communications from Salve Regina University. For over 15 years, Steve has worked hands-on in marketing and public relations management. He has contributed to the establishment of the City of Torrington’s Arts & Culture commission, and the Northwest CT’s Five Points Art Gallery and Fine Arts Launchpad. Currently Steve works at the University of Connecticut (UConn) where he first launched the Office of Economic Development as their Marketing Director. He also works in the Office of University Communications where he manages broadcast studio, logistics for photo and video shoots and oversees the production duties for all print collateral produced by the University. He also serves on the board of four different Board of Directors across the state, and the CT General Assembly has given him an official citation honoring his community service efforts.
He decided to pursue an MPA program due to the collaborative process between private citizens, industry leaders, non-profit organizations, and government. Steve chose UConn due to the insight and practical training offered by the Department of Public Policy (DPP) in preparing professionals to navigate the complex matrix of public/private ventures.
For students, Steve tells them “Don’t wait to apply the knowledge you are gaining in your classes. Find ways to take the skills you are learning and apply them to your current work situation or volunteer efforts. Putting that knowledge to work immediately helps bridge the gap from theory to real-world applications, creating a solid foundation for a successful and rewarding career.” Upon graduation, Steve hopes to combine his communications background with his public management and leadership skills at UConn. He would like to advance to a senior leadership role or transition into a career in the public sector that helps communities create infrastructure supports innovation, place making and entrepreneurship.
