James McGennis

Director, Project Management Office (IT), UConn Health


James McGennis returns to his alma mater through the University of Connecticut’s MPA Fellows Program, with extensive experience in project and program management, serving in public, nonprofit and for-profit sectors. He is currently the director of UConn Health information technology project management office, delivering healthcare information technology solutions to the professionals of UConn Health. Prior to this role James was the enterprise program manager at Connecticut Children’s, leading high value strategic initiatives. Prior to healthcare James spent significant time in aerospace, manufacturing and defense sectors in engineering and project management, where he had the opportunity to lead projects such as developing key equipment for the International Space Station, and complex aeroengine controls for the military. He holds multiple certifications including project management, program and portfolio management, supply chain, management, and lean. He holds a BS in Electrical Engineering from the University of Connecticut. He also holds a Master of Science in Management from Rensselaer Polytechnique Institute and an MA in interdisciplinary studies from the University of Illinois, as well as a certificate in Nonprofit Management from the University of Connecticut Department of Public Policy.
