Giovanny Velasco

Expected MPA 2017

B.S. Resource Economics, University of Connecticut

Prior to the MPA program, Giovanny attended the University of Connecticut where he earned a degree in Resource Economics. During his time at Storrs, Giovanny joined many clubs. He became a member of the International Business Society, the Economic society, Multicultural Business Society, Sigma Alpha Pi society, and UConn Husky Ambassador. He was also involved with the Multicultural Business Society in an executive role his senior year. Giovanny worked for UConn TIP his senior year, where he helped University start- up companies with research and administrative work. His hobbies include social gatherings, eating, playing the keyboard, and music.

What attracted Giovanny to UConn’s MPA program was its highly-regarded budgeting and finance certificate. The MPA Program’s faculty, staff and current students were also a big part of his decision to attend. Giovanny was not part of our Fast Track Program, but became aware of the program through local classroom visits. He is excited to take public finance and budgeting courses along with survey research.

After the program, Giovanny sees himself working as a city budgeter or as a town manager.
