Program Manager, Capitol Region Council of Governments
Brian Luther is a 2017 graduate of the University of Connecticut’s Master of Public Administration Program. He currently works as a Program Manager for the Capitol Region Council of Governments (CRCOG). CRCOG represents 38 municipalities in the Hartford region and strives to save taxpayer money through group purchasing, regionalization, and long-term planning. Brian works in the Municipal Services Department and primarily acts as a facilitator for CRCOG’s IT related programs. Brian routinely works with municipalities and vendors to procure municipal software and other IT related support. He also conducts project-based research for a variety of core municipal functions to help guide the region’s municipal leaders.
Brian grew up in Glocester, Rhode Island and attended Rhode Island College where he majored in Political Science and Public Administration, graduating in 2014. He was initially attracted to UConn’s MPA program because of its high ranking public finance curriculum, but it was UConn’s expansive professional network and active alumni that made all the difference in learning practical skills. He attributes UConn’s high rate of graduate employment to the program’s ability to place students in relevant internships and meaningful work experience.
While attending UConn, Brian worked as a Graduate Assistant in Department of Public Policy in his first year. Through UConn’s internship placement program, Brian secured an internship in the Town of Windsor’s Town Manager’s Office. During his time in Windsor he worked on a variety of municipal projects and discovered his passion for local government.
In his free time Brian enjoys playing hockey, softball, and golf as well as cheering on the Bruins, Red Sox, Patriots, and most of all, the Yard Goats.
