Eric Brunner Receives Grant to Examine Causal Impact of Attending a Career Technical High School:

With Steve Ross and Shaun Dougherty, Brunner will look at the causal impact of attendance on student achievement, high school graduation, college enrollment, and adult earnings. This builds upon their 2019 work on technical education in Connecticut. Their grant comes from the Institute of Education Sciences.

Mohamad Alkadry Studies Gender and Race/Ethnic Pay Disparities at State, National, and International Stages

On behalf of the Connecticut Council on Women and Girls, Alkadry and UConn alumna Tara Downes have been studying the State of CT workforce. They previously studied representation and compensation and are now studying new hire data. Alkadry recently completed a national survey on the effect of union membership on pay disparities. He is also currently studying the effect of family-friendly policies on career progress in Qatar and Gulf Cooperation countries.

Thomas Craemer Chairs Reparations Subcommittee on Wealth, Contributes to Proposed Reparation Bill

The Wealth subcommittee published an article in the Review of the Black Political Economy earlier this year. Recently, Craemer met with the Lieutenant Governor and lobbyists to discuss a bill that would create a Task Force to Study Racial Inequity and Reparations Proposals for American Descendants of Chattel Slavery (ADOCS) in Connecticut.

Jennifer Dineen and Kerri Raissian Lead Gun Violence Prevention Research Interest Group (GVP-RIG)

The scholars were recently awarded a Seed Grant to investigate “Using Interviews to Learn What Physicians Can Tell Us about Facilitators and Barriers to Firearm Medical Screenings in Diverse Clinical Settings.” GVP-RIG recently organized a panel on promoting alternatives to police in school, which featured Senator Chris Murphy.

Blanchard will also chair the search committee for UConn’s next Police Chief. He currently serves as UConn’s Associate Vice President for Budget, Management and Institutional Research. DPP Professor Amy Donahue is also a member of the President's Council.

This co-authored publication utilized a problem-driven approach that examined gender imbalance in local government. Earlier this semester, Hatmaker also moderated a JPART panel on “Racism, Power, and Inequality in Public Administration.” She currently serves a JPART associate editor.
