Undergraduate Opportunities

We offer undergraduate courses at the Storrs and Greater Hartford campuses.  Our minor can be a great compliment to a number of UConn majors, such as economics, political science, sociology, urban and community studies, business, family studies, and many others.

Our ‘fast track’ program allows UConn undergraduate students to enroll in graduate classes to reduce the time to complete the MPA degree.  Some students have been able to complete the MPA degree, which normally takes two years of full-time study, in only one year beyond their bachelor degree.  An individualized major is also a nice option for students interested in public policy.

We seek to teach students to:

  • Identify, interpret, and solve public problems,
  • Communicate clearly and cogently, and
  • Act effectively and fairly.

We prepare students in the core set of research, problem solving and communication skills that many contemporary employers desire. Coursework in public policy can also help prepare students for success at graduate study in areas such as survey research, public administration, law, and urban planning.

In addition to taking individual courses in the Department of Public Policy, undergraduates can Minor in Public Policy, pursue an Individualized Major with a Public Policy Theme, or enroll in the Fast-Track to MPA program.
