Richard Coore

Expected MPA 2017

Richard is a graduate of the University of Connecticut’s School of Business where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a concentration in financial wealth management. Richard also earned two additional Bachelor degrees in both Human Development and Family Studies and Organizational Psychology. He works as an electrical contractor where he holds a Master Electrical Contractors license in Connecticut. Richard has worked on many projects in the state, most notably the UConn power house where he worked on the main generators in 1999. During the economic downturn of 2008, Richard decided to attend college, retool himself and change careers where he has been very successful. The decision to significantly reduce work and income to attend college was a difficult one but well worth it as the benefits are fulfilling.

Richard is currently a dual Masters Degree Candidate at the UConn School of Business where he is working towards an MBA with a concentration in Business Analytics and Data Mining as well as a Master of Public Administration (MPA) in the Department of Public Policy. Education policy and social policy analysis classes were among the most influential and inspirational classes for him at the DPP. What attracted Richard to the MPA was the flexibility to learn about public policy and interact with faculty and staff who are motivated and dedicated to the development of their students. Upon graduation, he will use what he has learnt to obtain a management role in education policy at the federal level in Washington. Richard has a thirteen-year-old daughter who inspires and encourages Richard to be his best self. She will be attending high school in the fall of 2017 at Sacred Heart Academy in Hamden, Connecticut.
