Expected MPA 2018

Monica is from Grand Rapids, Michigan, and received her Bachelors of Arts from Aquinas College (Grand Rapids, MI) in May 2013. She majored in International Studies and spent her final undergraduate semester studying in Costa Rica. After graduation, she moved to Connecticut to work at the Connecticut Health Insurance Exchange. Over the past three years, she has worked as an outreach coordinator, enrollment and eligibility specialist, and appeals analyst. One of the most rewarding aspects of her work is using her knowledge of the Affordable Care Act to help Connecticut residents understand their healthcare options. She decided to apply to the University of Connecticut MPA program to refine her professional skills.

Monica found the hardest aspect of the MPA program to be balancing the graduate classes and homework with a full-time job. She would advise students to set aside time on the weekends to study and to organize so they are prepared for classes during the week. Monica hopes to apply the skills she learns in the MPA program to her everyday work.
