Expected MPA 2018
Katie is pursuing her MPA part-time while working as the Manager of Public Policy Initiatives at the Travelers Institute. Prior to this position, she earned her Bachelor of Arts in biology from Colby College before moving to Washington, D.C., to work for a nonprofit organization focused on global health issues in sub-Saharan Africa. Katie has volunteered on a number of political campaigns and is a member of the West Hartford Conservation and Environment Commission. A native of Chicago, she lives in West Hartford with her husband and daughter, and enjoys running and volunteering with the Junior League of Hartford, Inc.
Katie was attracted to the UConn MPA program because of the accessibility and flexibility of the program for part-time students. The opportunity to continue her education while applying learnings at work each day provides a uniquely valuable graduate experience.
Her advice to potential students is to take advantage of this time to explore new subjects outside of your core focus area, and remember that everyone has something to teach you – whether they are faculty, alumni or your fellow students.
