Budget Analyst, Budget and Financial Management Division, OPM
Kasia Janik is currently a Budget Analyst at the Budget and Financial Management Division of the Office of Policy and Management in Hartford, CT. In her position, Kasia monitors agency spending and examines policy. In particular, what Kasia enjoys most at OPM is working on the Governor’s budget.
Before her role at OPM, Kasia came directly to the MPA program after earning her bachelor’s in Political Science and Human Development and Family Studies at the University of Connecticut. The MPA program appealed to Kasia because of the welcoming attitude and the dedication of the professors. While Kasia originally intended to pursue a concentration in education policy, she found herself drawn to the DPP’s Certificate in Public Financial Management. She is proud to say that “everything Mark Robbins ever taught me is useful in my current position at OPM.”
When asked if she has any advice for current MPA students, she stated that networking was a crucial aspect of the program. “Be open to new things in the program and don’t shy away from courses you don’t think you will excel in academically. You never know where a course or experience might take you in your future.” When looking ahead, Kasia hopes to stay employed with OPM. She also hopes to one day advance within the organization.
